Sylvain Chomet - The Illusionist

Sylvain Chomet who brought us the fantastic Belleville Rendezvous is back with his latest animated wonder, The Illusionist. Leaving the world of 3D behind this beautifully hand illustrated film looks amazing and we can't wait to see it at the Barbican in two weeks time.

The Illusionist is inspired by an unproduced script by the late Jacques Tati. The films hero is Tatischeff, a struggling conjurer who abandons his natural habitat in late-50s Paris and alights to Edinburgh. In his arms he carries an obese white rabbit that is prone to bite and when performing in a remote Scottish pub he encounters Alice, a young girl who will change his life forever.

After the cinematic brilliance and technical genius of Pixar's Toy Story 3 last week, it will be refreshing to see the melancholy, understated and enchanting Illusionist. We can't wait as you can probably tell!
